There's a first time for everything, right?
The Golden Sisters proved that saying true today when Miley Cyrus tweeted in praise of their latest YouTube video (above), where the group of ladies (all over 70) took a stab at twerking.
The three sisters, Teresa, 82, and twins Mary and Josie, 74, have more than 4 million followers on YouTube and their raucous personalities were enough to garner them a reality show on the OWN Network called "Golden Sisters." The show wraps its first season on Saturday at 9 p.m.
Andrew Schotz, associate producer at LMNO productions, said that this will leave a lasting impression on the YouTube stars.
"To have Miley Cyrus tweet at them, they think 'Oh my God, she must love us,'" he said. "And the whole thing that they want to do, they just want to make people laugh."
At the time of the tweet, the video had just around 300 views on YouTube. We'll see how long that lasts.
People may never have experienced the hilarious trio if it weren't for a chance meeting when Teresa pitched a show with her son to LMNO Productions a few years ago.
"The CEO of [LMNO] wasn't a fan of the show, but he thought she was hilarious," Schotz said. "She said, 'If you think I'm funny, I have two other sisters.' That's when Josie and Mary came along."
"The chemistry was instantaneous and we had to get them on TV," Schotz added. "Then we found out they have lunch every Wednesday and stuck a camera in there."
The lunchtime sessions between the ladies, all former hairdressers that hail from the Bronx and now live in California, will continue being produced and posted on YouTube for the group's loyal followers. Schotz said he is crossing his fingers that the show gets picked up for a second season.
